Whitehouse Malaria Summit: LIVE

UPDATE: Both the Center for Global Development and Owen Barder have added there thoughts about the Summit.  

I wanted to highlight the LIVE webcast (via KFF) of the Whitehouse Malaria Summit tomorrow.

The malaria webcast is coming a few days after a new study (see BBC story, “Malaria ‘speeds spread of Aids'”) based on data from western Kenya indicates that malaria infection in HIV+ persons is associated with a surge in HIV in the body, basically making that person more infectious. They also found that having HIV in the first place is associated with higher risk of subsequent malarial infection, controlling for other factors in infection status.

    These disease interactions seem to be popping up in the science development press a lot lately. It’s not new and the Global Fund among others was created with co-morbidities in mind. But science is now confirming what less rigorous observation has documented. The same BBC piece noted that HIV transmission appears to affected by tuberculosis and herpes as well. A few months ago, some UN agency made the link between de-worming and ARV compliance…
